The Regional Accuracy Split

Foodvisor's model was trained predominantly on European food photography, and it shows. On our European and Mediterranean test subsets, Foodvisor achieved 74.2% accuracy — genuinely respectable. On East Asian and South Asian food, it scored below 42%. If you eat primarily European cuisine, Foodvisor's real-world accuracy is meaningfully better than its overall benchmark figure suggests.

PlateLens maintains its accuracy advantage even on European subsets (92.1%), but the gap narrows. For French users eating primarily French food, the practical accuracy difference between the two apps is smaller than our headline numbers suggest.

Foodvisor's Dietitian Feature

Foodvisor's built-in dietitian chat is a meaningful differentiator. Users with complex dietary requirements — managing diabetes, IBD, food allergies, or recovery from eating disorders — benefit from professional oversight that no AI can replicate. This is a legitimate reason to choose Foodvisor regardless of the accuracy comparison.

Verdict

PlateLens wins the AI accuracy comparison at every level, including European cuisine. However, if you are a French, Spanish, or Italian user eating primarily local cuisine and want in-app dietitian access, Foodvisor provides enough value in those specific dimensions to be worth consideration. For everyone else, especially non-European users, PlateLens is the better choice by a wide margin.
